EIFFEL TOWER
VISITORS DURING EASTER. More than 12,000 visitors made the ascent of the Eiffel Tower in Paris on Easter Sunday and Monday, the exact figures being: Easter Sunday. 6229; Easter Monday. 6356. This represents an increase of fifty per cent, over the figures for the two corresponding days of last year. More than half the visitore to the Eiffel Tower during Easter were British. The popularity of the Tower seems as great as ever. The ascent costs 15 francs (1/8) so that during the two days the takings amounted to something like £5OO a day. The fiftieth anniversary of the Eiffel Tower will be celebrated this year by special festivities. There will be an Eiffel Tower Exhibition, with prints and photographs of the building of the structure. The visitors’ book will also be shown, with the signature of Edward VII.. then Prince of Wales, among the first. A gala dinner, a resurrection of the atmosphere of 1889, will also form part of the celebrations.
During the recent visit to Paris of a number of Birmingham school boys, almost every one expressed the desire to make the ascent of the famous tower.
