BOMBER CRASH
MACHINE CATCHES FIRE IN MID=AIR R.A.F.,SERGEANT KILLED. TWO OTHERS PARACHUTE TO SAFETY. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON, June 20. A Royal Air Force sergeant was killed and an officer and an aircraftman parachuted to safety when a Fairey Battle bomber, which had been engaged in night exercises caught fire in mid air and crashed near Netherhampton early this morning. ANOTHER TRAGEDY SINGLE-SEATER FIGHTER DESTROYED. PILOT LOSES HIS LIFE. (Received This Day, 9.45 a.m.) LONDON, June 20. A single-seater Hurricane fighter crashed during a thunderstorm in Sussex and hit the ground at the rate of 400 miles an hour. The engine was buried 40 feet. The pilot attempted to parachute but failed and was killed.
