NO WORK AT BACK DOOR
MINISTER ON MAIN TRUNK DEMANDS. REQUESTS BY CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.' WANGANUI, This Day. The possibility of men being employed on land development work in the Raetihi-Ohakune district has been exercising the minds of the Raetihi and Ohakune Chambers of Commerce and other local boards, who have made representation to the Minister of Public Works (Mr Semple) to find employment in the District. Interviewed today Mr Semple replied that he was not going to find work for men at their back door at the invitation of any Chamber of Commerce. The men would have to go to work on the roads most profitable to the nation. The minister explained that only 20 single men were idle. Seventy-seven employed on land development work would not be idle till next month, and 38 would finish in August. Engineers had been instructed to look round and advise as to suitable and profitable work.
