Classy Fields Will Compete at Waipa
ARAPUNI HANDICAP DIVIDED
THE RUNNERS REVIEWED
(By
“CARBINE.”)
Class fields will contest the Waipa Racing Club’s winter meeting which will take place at Te Awamutu on Saturday. Because of the large number of runners the Arapuni Hack Handicap has been divid-, ed into two.sections and will be treated as separate races with stakes of £l5O each. In several races.horses are running who have been winning at recent meetings and it is expected that some close and interesting finishes will result. The win and place mode of betting will be in operation.
ANDREW KAY MEMORIAL HACK AND HUNTERS’ STEEPLES. About two miles and a quarter. High Quality 11 5 Chikara .... 9 2 Lucidus 11 0 Kittle 9 2 Celtic Lad .. 10 2 British Wasplo 2 Sovereign 9 0 Mahala 10 1 TutorJ) 0 Gadgerlo 1 Nuipapa .. .. w 0 Count ~ Rebel King 9 0 Roussillon 9 13 Royal Nation 9 0 Bells of Bow 9 7 Car Leaf .... 9 0 Gascyne .... 9 7 Dark Rose ..9 0 Little Briton 9 7 The top weight in this event, High Quality, is a fine horse but may be in need of a race or two before striking true form. Eleven stone would appear to flatter Lucidus, who has not been going too well of late.. Celtic Lad is another who has not scored recently, while Wasp had a win three starts ago. Mahala, who passed the post first carrying 9.6 in the Bay of Plenty Steeplechase is sure to be well followed up. ’ Gadger and Count Roussillon do not impress while Bells of Bow might find the pace too hot. Gascyne has not been placed of late and should not trouble the leaders. Royal Nation scored a good win in the Otara Hurdles at the Bay of Plenty meeting, but if Chikara's saddle had not slipped when in a handy position that horse might have been further up in the placings. British Sovereign is a horse best not forgotten and can .be expected to turn on a fair sort of a race. The rest do not look good enough and support may come for Mahala Royal Nation Chikara ARAPUNI HACK HANDICAP. Six furlongs and a half. First Division. Little Ruse : might also be followed up while Tea i Gong with a win at the Bay of Plenty .' ipeeting in hand is almost certain to command support. Miss Valerie has been showing form lately; so has Star 1 Vaals. Of the rest Ngawiri and Princess i Lu might be supported but public I fancy may include Tea Gong 1 Miss Valerie ■ Star Vaals Second Division. Erlick is a horse ; to watch and Little Idea is expected ; to run a good race. Sieglinde recently , filled second position and might be fancied by some. Master Vaals, Phil • dale and True Measure will be in the hunt but those finding favour may in- ' elude . Midland. Bronze Moth ' Sieglinde j WOODSTOCK STAKES. Here again the punter will have his work cut out sorting out the best of an excellent field. The top weight, King Rey, has not been placed in his last six races but can be depended on to make the pace a cracker. Balinavar ran second in the York Handicap at
Auckland, but might find the distance too far. Cheval de Volee was prominent at one stage in the Cornwall Han- > dicap at Auckland but did not manage >to make the grade. Gold Vaals was also never dangerous in the same event while Galilee, who was also a starter, was never ighted. Master Brierly is not a form horse. Maori Song scored at the recent Waikato meeting and may be supported. Gay Rose has not met with much success lately, and Sergia is another who has not been placed in the last four or five starts. Airam is a horse who is likely to come to the fore at any moment, and although does not suggest it, this horse may be well supported. Jack Tar has a couple of thirds recently and might find favour with some. Besiege, who started as first favourite in the Farewell Handicap at Auckland, only ran into third position, but the distance of six furlongs may not have been far enough. Of the others Day Wind, iPrince Colossus and Philcourt appear the most likely. However most support may come for Maori Song Jack Tar Besiege or Cheval de Volee W. G. PARK STEEPLECHASE. Two miles and a half. Erination .. .. 11 13 St Musk .... 9 7 All Irish .. .. 11 11 Smilin’ Thru 9 3 En Tour .. .. 10 0 Roxy 9 3 Biform 10 6 Mahala 9 0 Lucidus .... .. 9 12 Ureklaw .... 9 0 Simint 9 11 Electric Flash 9 0 London 9 11 Little Briton 9 0 Pyrenees .. .. 9 10 Car Leaf 9 0 Erination has the honour of carrying top weight in the 'W. G. Park Steeplechase, and even with 11.13 up this horse is sure to run a good race. All Irish’s win in the Winter Steeple- ■ chase at Auckland is sure to make that . horse a favourite. All Irish was in front all the way round the last time and won hands down. En Tour challenged gamely in the same race but did not have a show. However En Tour will be sure to receive support. Biform carried 10.13 into second place in the June Steeplechase at the Bay of Plenty meeting and in view of the reduction in weight will probably command support. Simint does not look quite classy enough, while London and Car Leaf were not good enough at the Bay. Pyrenees was first home in the Campbell Hurdle race at Auckland and will be a fancy. Saint Musk shaped creditably to fill third position in the Winter Steeplechase at Auckland. Smilin’ Thru fell at the stone wall in the same event, and Electric Flash was also among the missing when the turn was reached. The others do not appeal and- < those finding favour may be

The top weight Inness Lad is a good horse when in form, but at the present looks a little off colour. Mia . Acrea has not been up with the place horses of late but can be depended on to make a race of it. Lady England does not look good enough in the class, , nor does Jewelled Girdle. King Musk ’ is sure to find support although he has . not been placed in his last races. High Tea looks definitely outclassed while . Cappy is not a form horse. Chikara ’ will be well liked so will General Ruse. The rest are only fair horses and most support may be found for Chikara General Ruse King Musk PATERANGI HANDICAP. Seven furlongs. Orate 9 11 Te Monowai 8 1 Whirling 9 9 Eastern Heir 8 0 Silver Jubilee 9 5 Lady Meath 8 0 Royevrus .... 9 5 Requiem .... 8 0 Young Paddon 9 0 Prince Gay Seton .... 9 0 Colossus 8 0 Brazilian .. .. 8 12 May Song ..8 0 Sergia 8 12 Eka Pai 8 0 Besiege 8 11 Little Artist 8 0 Bachelor King 8 10 Alyth 8 0 I Marie's Acre ..8 7 Land Girl .... 8 0 Very Glad .... 8 2 Tip Toes .... 8 0 Orate has not been running to form at all lately and might find that the going is too tough. Whirling has two thirds of late and is off usual form. Silver Jubilee came home in the Farewell Handicap, a distance of six furlongs, at the Bay of Plenty meeting and is sure to find strong support. Young Paddon has not been successful in recent starts and might not bother the loaders. Gay Seton failed at the Bay of Plenty meeting, while Besiege and Marie’s Acre were both placed horses, the latter scoring a win and a second. Brazilian is not a form horse at the moment, and Bachelor King has not been placed in his last two starts.' . Very Glad is another whose number . has not been hoisted as a winner lately. Eastern Heir has not been running . well lately and Requiem is also off colour. Most support may come for ' Marie’s Acre ; Besiege < Silver Jubilee 1

Forest Acre also filled a second position at Waikato. Hessketoon, with a second and third in the last two races looks to be in the running and might be well supported. Loombination is another form horse who can be depended on to make the race interesting. Racecamp scored over a mile recently and may be fancied. Spinning Wheel was a winner at the Bay of Plenty meeting, while Long Span and Erlick can be depended on to be handy at the end. Of the others Right Royal, General Riske, Silver Glow and Wild Acre will go well, but those followed up may include
