THE HOUSEWIFE’S NOTEBOOK
SOME USEFUL HINTS. When the sewing machine slips a few stitches, try changing the needle. It sometimes solves the problem. Do not reject an overall that fits well, but is too long. That extra bit of material can be cut off and kept for repairs. Using a large sheet of grease-proof paper instead of the pastry-board when possible is a simplification of kitchen work. When winter comes keep in mind that excellent inner soles for shoes can be cut from an old felt hat. There is nothing better for warmth and comfort. When joining the seams of a garment knitted in thick wool, it is likely to be heavy work unless you separate the strands of the wool and use only one piece.
