THEFT AT WIGRAM
YOUNG AIRCRAFTSMAN STEALS UNIFORM. SENTENCED TO SIX WEEKS’ HARD LABOUR. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. This Day. Thefts at the Wigram Aerodrome are very prevalent. Two detectives have been stationed there for some time making inquiries. This indication of conditions was given by De-tective-Sergeant Sinclair during the hearing of a case in Court this morning. Aircraftsman Harold Edmund Dickie, aged 23, admitted a charge of stealing, on May 27, a uniform tunic, trousers and braces valued at £lO 2s 6d, the property of Harry Nalder, Major. The Court cannot pass this sort of thing over,” commented Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M., in sentencing Dickie to six weeks’ imprisonment with hard labour. The uniform had been recovered, said Detective-Sergeant Sinclair, but the trousers had been shortened and altered and the tunic had been slightly altered. Dickie yielded to a sudden temptation when he saw the tunic hanging up, said counsel for accused. He had been in the Air Force for a year.
