STOWAWAYS ON AWATEA
YOUNG MARRIED COUPLE. ALL POSSESSIONS TN PAPER BAG. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. SYDNEY. June 19. Penniless and with their worldly possessions in a brown paper bag, a young married couple stowed away at Wellington in the Awatea and announced their presence to Captain Davey late on the first night out. They claim to be Australians, but as they have been unable to furnish the immigration authorities with conclusive proof they have been detained aboard the liner. The husband said they to Wellington a few months ago and he secured a job as a motor driver, but the climate beat him. He expected money from Australia, but it did not arrive. When he left the job they were faced with starvation, so they stowed away. Passengers in the Awatea subscribed £6, which will go toward the wife's fare.
