A new market for New Zealand stud sheep, mainly Romneys, has been fostered by Messrs Wright. Stephenson and Co., Ltd. in Tasmania. Following on the visit of Mr Allan Stewart, Managing Director of the Company of that name in Tasmania, orders were received for 30 Romney ewes, six Southdown ewes, six Ryelands and a Border Leicester ram. These sheep have now arrived in Tasmania, and the quality of the New Zealand Romney has appealed so much that the Tasmanian Government have decided to commence a stud, and definite orders have been secured for the foundation, stock. These will be for delivery next year, and will be secured from the famous Waiorongomai stud of Mr R. W. Matthews, the Te Marama stud of Mr E. D. Warburton, Cheltenham and the Alloa Stud of the late Mr Quentin Donald. Inquiries have also been received for Ayrshire cattle and Tamworth and Berkshire pigs.
