Hawke, Clareville, will regret to learn that he is laid aside with illness, but is now making a good recovery. Two members of the Marlborough touring Rugby football team, Messrs M. Woolley and W. Woolley stayed in Carterton over the weekend with their aunt, Mrs Gayfer, of Rhodes Street. Hockey Games. Two games were played on Carrington Park on Saturday tha results of which were: —Carterton Junior A beat College B by 8 goals to 1; Dalefield juniors beat Wesley juniors by 3 goal's to nil. Some excellent stick work was shown in both games especially by G. Abbott, of the Dalefield team, who was very accurate with his stick and never once was found wanting. Soon after the commencement of the game Carterton-Hastwells hockey match at Hastwells, Alan Harp had a nasty fall and had his nose split which necessitated his retirement. Albert Ward also' received an injury. Carterton played one short and had it not been for the excellent goal-keeping of J. Newland the visitors must have suffered defeat. Tomato & Strawberry Culture. Two talks will be given in Greytown by Mr Ben Roberts, M.P., on tomato culture and strawberry growing. The speaker is a well known authority on both these subjects, and as the government policy is the import control of jams, pickles, etc., a splendid opportunity is offered to small fruit-growers to get busy and supply the New Zealand market. Everyone is invited to these meetings, the first of which will be held at Greytown on Thursday, June 22, and the second on Friday, June 23.
