MAD OUTBREAK
YOUNG MAORI RUNS WILD IN NORTH AUCKLAND. WOMAN KILLED AND CHILD BADLY HURT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WHANGAREI. June 17. Okaihau was the scene of a sensational affair yesterday afternoon, when William Paki, a Maori labourer, aged 26, was taking a four-year-old boy from his mother, from whom Paki was separated. Paki got into a small car and drove at a furious rate up and down the main street. Each time he passed the boarding-house where his wife is.employed, he cried out, "Will you come back to me?” On one journey he struck, with terrific force, a small sedan car, in which Mrs Marsh, Rangihuia, w r as driving to Kaikohe, accompanied by iter daughter, Dawn. Mrs Marsh sustained serious injuries to the head and she died early this morning. Her daughter was able to be taken home. Paki’s son has his skull fractured and lies critically ill. Immediately after the collision Paki cut hjs throat, but the wound was attended to. His condition is serious, but he is expected to recover. Paki is under police supervision.
