GUARANTEED LOAN
LONDON LABOUR PAPER’S SUGGESTION MEETING NEW ZEALAND REQUIREMENTS. CRITICISM OF POLITICAL PREJUDICE. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received This Day, 1 p.m.) LONDON, June 18. Suggesting that Mr W. Nash (New Zealand Finance Minister) and Sir John Simon (Chancellor of the Exchequer) should come to terms on a guaranteed loan to New Zealand along the lines of those to Rumanian and Turkey, the city editor of the "Daily Herald" says Mr Montagu Norman and other bankers told Mr Nash that they cannot, at the moment raise £16,000.000 for defence. Certainly conditions do not favour this type of loan. Therefore only part of Mr Nash’s difficulties can be attributed to political prejudice. Some New Zealand banks are known to be hostile and arc working actively against Mr Nash. The "Herald" in an editorial advocating a guaranteed loan, says it hardly seems possible that political prejudice can be stretched so far as to deny a loan because it is for a Labour Government.
