NEW MAURETANIA

SEND-OFF ON MAIDEN TRIP. ENTHUSIASM IN LIVERPOOL. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY,, June 17. The new Mauretania was given an enthusiastic send-off in Liverpool this evening on her maiden voyage to New York. She is carrying 1000 passengers, including Sir Percy Bates, chairman of the Cunard-White SlatLine, and Lady Bates. A civic reception will be accorded the liner in Queenstown and another big welcome awaits her in New York. She will arrive in New York on Friday evening, but will make a triumphal entry on Saturday morning. The mayor, Mr La Guardia, will send radio-telephone greetings to Sir Percy Bates in mid-Atlantic. The Mauretania will ply in future from the Port of London, and will be the largest merchant vessel to enter the Thames. “The Times” points out that the new vessel is not designed to break records for fastest passages, though her speed on the trials is said to have been little less than that of the normal service speed of her famous namesake, which held the Atlantic record for 21 years.
