IRON GUARD PLOT

DISCOVERY ANNOUNCED IN RUMANIA PLANS TO ASSASSINATE KING AND MINISTER. FORMER ARSENAL WORKERS ARRESTED. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright BUCHAREST, June 17. The police announce a widespread Nazi Iron Guard plot to assassinate King Carol, M. Gafencu, Foreign Minister, and oilier members of Hie Government. Six former employees of Hie Rumanian Army Arsenal have been arrested and charged with preparing hand grenades.

The Iron Guard, a Rumanian Fascist body alleged to have been organised from Germany, was reputedly crushed by King Carol last year when an elaborate plot against his Government was uncovered. Many secret stores of arms were found, and the preparations for an imminent Iron Guard uprising were said to have been complete. The organisation was suppressed by fast and drastic action by King Carol, who had a large number of the leaders executed.
