FEATHERSTON

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MEETING AT KAHUTARA. (“Times-Age" Special.) At the ■ monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute held in the Kahutara Hall Mrs McKenna presided over a fair attendance of members.' Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Feast, Hooper and Cole and Miss Cole. • The president welcomed the visitors. An interesting demonstration of covered. lamp-shades was given by Mrs Pope, who was later presented with a shoulder spray and accorded a vote of thanks. The competitions resulted as follow: Seniors: Madeira cake, Mrs Hood 1, Mrs Rogers 2, Mrs Welsh 3. Juniors: Cushion cover, Miss B. Warrington 1, Miss J. Hood 2. Best bloom, Mrs Pope 1, Mrs Welsh 2. The competitions for July will be: Seniors, lamp shade; juniors, best dressed doll. A demonstration of matmaking is-to be given by Mrs McKenna. The tea hostesses were Mesdames Corlet and Cade, and Misses P. Warrington and E. Harvey. LEAGUE OF MOTHERS ADDRESS BY REV E. J. RICH. At the monthly meeting of the League of Mothers held in the Parish Hall Mrs Clark (president) presided over a good attendance of members. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Stevens, Lowell, R. W. Benton, F. Benton, F. W. Burt, W. R. Archer, J. S. Kilsby and T. Lang. The speaker for the afternoon was the Rev E. J. Rich, Masterton, who spoke on the sanctity of marriage and the sacred relationship of human lives. On the motion of Mrs Arch Clark Mr Rich was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his address. The tea hostesses were Mesdames J. W. Holland, H. Cundy, H. Ayre and J. G. McKenzie. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs J. Nunn have left on a motor tour of the North Island. Mrs Rendle, Kahutara Road, is visiting Dannevirke. Mr and Mrs F. S. Wood, Kahutara, are visiting Palmerston North. Basketball Matches., The Greytown Primary School players yesterday met Featherston in A and B grade basketball matches and were defeated, the Featherston A team winning by 6 goals to 3, and the B team by 6 goals to 5. School Football Match. At Featherston yesterday the Greytown school defeated the Featherston school by 25 points to nil.
