LAND INDUSTRY
DEVELOPMENT IN BRITAIN COMMENT BY LABOUR MEMBERS. , REFERENCES TO NEW ZEALAND. By Telegraph—Pres.'. Association—Copyright. LONDON, June 16. Colonel J. C. Wedgwood (Labour), speaking on the second reading of the Agricultural Development Bill, said that members of the Government advanced much the same arguments as Mr Nash. “I hope that when embarking on a similar course to that followed by the Labour Government of New Zealand, they wil be equally successful in raising the standard of comfort,” he said. “I hope, also, that they will survive the inevitable fate all such schemes, namely, inflation, losing in the swings what we gain in the roundabouts.” Mr Tom Williams (Labour) declared that New Zealand had taken the British lamb market. Unless farmers could produce something comparable with Canterbury lamb they would everlastingly be seeking bigger subsidies. The Bill passed the second reading by 229. votes to 119.
