SPANISH FASCISTS
PROPOSAL TO ANNEX PORTUGAL AS STEP TO IMPERIAL GLORY. REPORTED STRONG MOVEMENT. (Independent Cable Service.) (Received This Day, 10.45 a.m.) LISBON, June 16. It is reported tnat there is a strong movement between General Franco’s Falangists (Spanish Fascists) in favour of the forcible annexation of Portugal. It is believed that the movement is encouraged oy Signor Mussolini and Herr Hitler. The Falangists urge the advantages of making the Iberian Peninsula an economic unit and claim that, with Portugal’s colonial empire, Spain will be able to return to her former .imperial glory.
