Garcia, making his debut in New York as a middleweight, knocked out Popeye Woods in the fourth round of a ten-round bout. Garcia knocked out his opponent with a right-hand smash, after flooring him five times previously, three times for counts of nine. The victory earned Garcia a match with Apostoli, who is recognised in New York as the middleweight c h a m p i o n.
