WELLINGTON COMPETITIONS

Entries will close on Friday, June 23, for the annual vocal, instrumental, elocutionary and dancing festival to be held in Wellington in August and September next. This festival attracts a very heavy entry from all over New Zealand, and a great selection of classes is offered competitors. This year the special feature is the Melba Bequest Scholarship Elimination contest for New Zealand, the prize in which will be £4O, covering boat fare and expenses allowance to enable the winner to compete in the big contest at the Melbourne Conservatorium in February, 1940. The prize at this latter contest is valued at £3OO a year for two years, with the possibility of extension for a third year. It is open to ladies 17 years and over. There are 227 classes in the syllabus covering all the arts. A copy of the syllabus may be obtained from Mr Pither’s book shop, Queen Street, Masterton, or from the Secretary. Box 1059, Wellington. Besides gold medals for championships in all sections, valuable aggregate prizes are offered, with numerous challenge cups and shields.
