BADMINTON
MATCH AT MASTERTON. ATTRACTIONS FOR TOMORROW. The appearance in Masterton tomorrow night of four members, together with the men’s emergency, of the New Zealand Badminton Test team to tour Australia next month has created much local interest. In particular, the play of P. Hawksworth (national singles, men’s doubles, and combined doubles title holder) will be watched with interest. Hawksworth’s well-tim-ed, clean-cut strokes, and powerful smash, combined with his special “reverse” shot, are delightful to watch. G. A. Pearce, who holds the New Zealand men’s doubles title with Hawksworth. also plays a spectaculai game. Mrs Hawksworth and Miss Nancy Fleming, arc expected to plaj good badminton, as both of them are in the New Zealand team. G. R. Pattinson, the reserve in the New Zealand team, is, in the opinion of many keen judges the future New Zealand champion, and in all probability will be playing P. Hawksworth ii a thrilling singles duel. If any playei in New Zealand is able to extend Hawksworth, it will be Patterson. After a narrow defeat in the Wisden Cup match with Wellington, Wairarap; is keen to even the score.

Mrs Hawksworth (combined doubles title holder) wil’ play a singles match with Miss Nancy Fleming (national singles title holder), and at 7.30 the highlight of the evening will be the Hawksworth-Pattinson (or Pearce) singles match. Which ever of these two players Hawksworth plays, a brilliant exhibition is certain Pearce and Hawksworth (national men’s doubles title holders) will play J. J. Payton and J. Lulham (Wairarapa title holders) at 8 o'clock, and t: sterling game is assured. At 8.30 o'clock Hawksworth and Mrs Hawksworth will play Pearce and Miss Fleming. As these players are going tc Australia as New Zealand's best players, this game should provide an exhibition of badminton at its best J. J.
