STARTLING INCIDENT
BULLET SHATTERS TRAIN WINDOW. BRITISH HIGH COMMISSIONER A PASSENGER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN. June 15. A startling incident occurred on the southbound Christchurch express, near Otaio, about noon today when a bullet shattered the window of a firstclass carriage, in which it is believed lhe High Commissioner for Great Britain in New Zealand, Sir Harry Batterbee, was travelling. Splinters of glass fell om to the lap of. a passenger sitting by lhe broken window, but luckily he received no injuries, and, be'ore he could be interviewed by the Dunedin police, he had left the station.
The guard, wno was on the train at the time of the incident, however, returned to Christchurch on the north express with a full report. Though a search was made for the bullet during the ex/ .-ess’s short wait in Dunedin, no trace of it could >Pe discovered, and a more thorough examination of the car was to be made on the train’s arrival at Invercargill. It is considered that the bullet was fired from a .22 rifle.
