WOOL RESEARCH

NEW SCOURING PROCESS. RISK OF DAMAGE CURTAILED. The International Wool Secretariat has learnt that steps are being taken to introduce a new wool scouring process. developed on the Continent, to the British wool textile industry. For this process it is claimed no soaps or alkalis are necessary, thus greatly reducing the risk of damage to the wool fibre which results unless careful chem leal and temperature controls arc employed. It is maintained also that dyeing is facilitated and. most important perhaps, the time and cost of scouring is considerably reduced. An additional, advantage claimed is that almost complete recovery of wool fat;; is possible at both lower cost and in an improved form when compared with existing methods. It is only natural that any new scouring process should be regarded with considerable scepticism and the International Wool Secretariat is not in a position to form an opinion as to the practicability or merits of the process. The Secretariat, however, has put the agent. Dr P. Bleyer, in touch with several members of the industry and with the Director of the Wool Industries Research Association as it seems highly desirable that the method should be investigated and submitted to comprehensive tests bv the Research Association.
