BOXING
SHARE OF PURSE HELD UP. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) HASTINGS. June 15. The sudden ending of the McKayHanscn professional boxing contest in Hastings last night was the subject of a hurried meeting of the executive of the Hawke’s Bay Boxing Association immediately after. It was decided to withhold Hansen’s share of the purse till the subject had again been discussed at a further meeting of the executive tonight. In the third round of the bout Hansen fell writhing to the canvas. No claim to a foul was made and Hansen was counted out by the referee, Mr J. Steevens, who declared McKay the winner. Hansen’s seconds then claimed a foul and Hansen was carried to the dressing-rooms. He was examined by Dr. Cashmore and Dr. Kitchen, who stated that they were unable to discover any indication of a foul blow. The referee said he saw no foul and it was not till Hansen’s seconds made the claim and called for a doctor that he knew anything of such a blow. The executive met agifln at 8 o’clock tonight and after a full discussion decided to pay to Hansen his full share of the purse.
