FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
OVERWHELMING DEFEAT ON NATIONAL INSURANCE ISSUE. NOT REGARDED AS VITAL. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 11.20 a.m.) CANBERRA, This Day. The Federal Government was overwhelmingly defeated in the House of Representatives last night, on its proposal to appoint a select committee to investigate national insurance. The Ministry, which had expected an adverse vote, does not regard this defeat as vital. Although the scheme has been suspended, the principle of national insurance still remains on the Statute Book.
