NOT A “HELL SHIP”

THE ENDEAVOUR INQUIRY NO COMPLAINT OF HARSH TREATMENT. CHARGES OF OVERCROWDING TO BE INVESTIGATED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received This Day, 10.25 a.m.) LONDON, June 14. In the House of Commons, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty, Mr G. H. Shakespeare, said only a brief telegraphic summary of the H.M.S. Endeavour inquiry had been received, but no serious cause for discontent was revealed. The men had been given liberty to make representations, but there was not a single complaint, regarding harsh treatment or unjust punishment. Therefore there could be no question of remission cf sentences. The complaints of- overcrowding would be examined when the full report arrived. The ship’s company resented the allegation that H.M.S. Endeavour was a “Hell Ship.”
