»■ THE GAME IN MASTERTON. EFFORTS AT REVIVAL. Persistent efforts to revive .local, interest in the game of chess have, not altogether been in vain and with the view of ascertaining just what support may be relied upon a chess rally and social has been arranged for the evening of Saturday, June 24, in the Trades Hall, opposite the premises of Messrs Hugo and Shearer Ltd. Players from all parts of the Wairarapa have promised to attend. In addition to local supporters it is also hop-; ed to obtain the presence of a number of prominent Wellington players, including Mr F. K. Kelling, who will speak to the assembled players as to arrangements in connection with the Centennial Congress to be j held in Wellington next Christmas. The programme will take the form of a sides match, social games and supper, and is open to all interested free of charge. Every chess player in the district, whether novice or veteran, is cordially invited to attend.
