ASSETS DOWN

MORE THAN MN PREVIOUS YEARS POSITION OF PATRIOTIC ASSOCIATION. YEAR OF SATISFACTORY WORK REVIEWED. “Work during the year has gone on much the same as usual," said Mr D. McGregor, president of the Wairarapa Patriotic Association, at its annual meeting at Masterton today. “Our total assets are down more that? in previous years —generally the assets are down about £lBOO, but this year it is £2000," said Mr McGregor. “At this time last year, the international situation was very intense and it looked as if we might have to reorganise the association,” Mr McGregor observed. "The crisis, however, was successfully passed. This year has also been one of international strain, but I feel that we arc in a safer position than wo were a year ago. I sincerely hope so." The association had sufficient funds for another five years, stated Mr H. M. Buddington, in seconding the adoption of the report and balance sheet. Everything had gone quite satisfactorily during the year. As in the past, much work had been dealt with by the Claims Board and all claims had been met on their merits. There was' considerable discussion regarding the placing of head stones on soldiers’ graves, and it was decided to request the Hon W. E. Parry and the Hon F. Jones to make funds available, so that every deceased returned soldier would be provided with a head stone. The executive committee was elected as follows: — Boroughs: Masterton, Mr T. F. Watson; Carterton, Mr W. H. Booth; Greytown, Mr A. W. Horton; Featherston. Mr J. W. Card; Martinborough, Mr C. R. Holmes; Eketahuna, Mr A. H. Herbert. Counties: Masterton, Mr W. I. Candy. Wairarapa R.S.A.: Messrs R. R. Burridge and H. J. Brass. Legislature (ex-officio): Messrs J. Robertson, M.P., and B. Roberts, M.P. Branches of the association: Carterton, Mr H. Mortenson; Marlinborough, Mr Jack Martin; Eketahuna, Mr B. Morriss. Trustees (exofficio): Messrs H. M. Boddington, J. H. Irving, W. G. Lamb, Hugh Morrison and G. C. Williams. Subscribers: Messrs D.
