INQUEST OPENED

VICTIMS OF WAIKUMETE SMASH. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, June 13. An inquest was opened today by the coroner, Mr F. K. Hunt, into the deaths of John Kyle Caldwell, and Flora McKenzie Brown, victims of a head-on collision between a motorvan and a motor-car near Waikumete on Sunday. John Kyle Caldwell, storeman, identified’ the body of his father, aged 65, a salesman, employed by a city firm, who, while his wife was on holiday in England. had been boarding in Kohimarama. His father had been driving motor vehicles since 1923, he said, and. for about nine days before his death, had driven the van. He was a cautious driver.

Matthew Boyd Meikle identified the body of Miss Brown, whom he had known for 14 years, he said. She was single, aged 46, resided in Mt Albert, and was a bookkeeper. Her relatives resided in Taranaki: The inquest was adjourned.
