The Hon P. C. Webb, Minister of Labour, returned to Wellington from the north'by aeroplane yesterday. Mr and Mrs R. J. McKay, and Mr D. W. Foote, of Wellington, are among the guests this week at the Prince of Wales Hotel.

Mr Charles Pattison was yesterday re-elected for the twentieth consecutive year as chairman of the Patangata County Council. Guests at the Empire Hotel include Mr and Mrs Buchart (Taranaki), Mr Webster Griffin (Auckland) and Mr and Mrs Miller (Wellington).

The Rev Father Philip Murphy, who has been appointed a member of the staff of the Catholic monastery at Onehunga, arrived at Auckland from Sydney by the Niagara. Mr D. McGregor was re-elected president of the Wairarapa Patriotic Association at the annual meeting at Masterton today. Mr H. M. Boddington was re-elected treasurer.

Mr A. E. McPhail is the nominee of the Canterbury Rugby Union as one of the delegates to represent the New Zealand Union at the Imperial Rugby Conference in London early next year. Messrs E. Franklin, W. Rusbridgc (Wellington), A. McDonald (Martinborough), R. Metcalfe. Mr and Mrs J. G. Clarke (Palmerston North), are among the guests at the Hotel Midland.

Lieutenant W. H. Osborne, conductor of the Ashburton Silver Band, has been appointed conductor of the > Timaru Municipal Band, of which he had charge for 10 years before taking over the Ashburton band two years ago.

The Rev E. O. Blamires, Kilbirnie, and formerly of Masterton, is at present in St George s Hospital, Christchurch. At yesterday’s luncheon of the Rotary Club, the president. Mr F. Campbell’Spratt, expressed members’ sympathy with Mr Blamires. With the passing away during the year of the Hon A. D. McLeod, Messrs Q. Donald. D. P. Loasby, A. P. Whatman and W. B. Matheson, twenty of the original members of the Wairarapa Patriotic Association are now dead. Those members present at today’s annual meeting of the Association stood as a mark of respect to the memory of those who had died during the past year.
