OPAKI v. FEATHERSTON. (Notes by “Touchline.”) The Opaki-Featherston game on Saturday was a hard fought one right through. Opaki was without Allen, Taplin, and Ken Roigard, all splendid forwards, who were on the sick list, but were lucky to get I. Howie who was transferred from Carterton to Opaki. From the kick off Opaki attacked. From a scrum Featherston was penalised and L. Morgan sent the ball over the bar. Just before half-time E. McKenzie scored a try for Featherston., no goal resulting. On resuming, scrum after scrum took place, and although Opaki hooked frequently, the heavy blue forwards smothered attempts to get the ball to Chisnall. Weight was telling against Reds, and a fine back r saw Woodman go over for a Reed’s kick failing. Offside play gave Morgan another chance and he kicked a fine goal. There was no further’ score, the game ending in a draw. 6 points each. For Featherston Houghton, Woodman and McKenzie were conspicuous. McKenzie, L. Morgan, Condon, Peters, Howie, Seymour, Goddin and Green went well for Opaki. Gorringe is an improved player. Costello put in some splendid runs. Hunt was going well till injured.
