COURSING

WAIRARAPA CLUB EVENTS. The Maiden Stake for the Grimwood Sup, to be decided on Saturday, should orovide one of the most interesting coursing contests of the season. Wairarapa owners are being called upon to defend a strong challenge from visiting leash-men. Wellington's challengers will be Mr Ratcliffe’s Gay Master and Mr La Roche’s Sergeant Dan and Lady Luck. Of these three, Gay Master, which is an Australian-bred dog, should be i good proposition, while Mr La Roche can be relied upon to have his dogs wrought to the slips in good condition. Wairarapa-owned dogs which are expected to run well are Mr J. Hare’s ,wo nominations, The Trump and Solden Gem (the latter being a young, mtried dog which appears to possess plenty of pace); Mr R. Southey’s Attarcre, a much improved dog since the Puppy Stakes a fortnight ago; Mr W. L. Jensen's Snowdrift, a typical coursing greyhound which will be one of the hardest to beat, is in tip-top condition; Messrs Archer Bros’ Trouble may stand up to his name for other competitors in the stake, while Mr W. Spring may repeat his win of a week or so ago with another son of Rereatu. The draw is taking place at the Y.M.C.A. at 8.30 p.m. on Thursday and the executive meets at 7.30 to appoint the officials for Saturday.
