GREYTOWN
FIRE BRIGADE NEW SIREN PURCHASED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown Volunteer Fire Brigade was held last night, when Superintendent J. Wood presided over a full attendance of members. The roll was called for the meeting and fire call checked. It was reported that Mr Ticehurst had tried out the new siren and on his recommendation it was decided to purchase a i’-h.p. motor and that it be connected with a three phase. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Ticehurst for his report and demonstration. The action of the secretary ip letting the hall for the season for euchre parties was endorsed. FAREWELL GATHERING PRESENTATIONS AT PAPAWAI. A surprise visit was paid to the residence of Mr and Mrs W. Gordon at Papawai yesterday afternoon by friends from Greytown, Battersea, Morison’s Bush and Papawai to say farewell to them prior to their leaving the district. Mrs Dyson, Battersea, presented Mrs Gordon with a posy made by Mrs Pink of Carterton Mrs G. R. Jury expressed the regret which all present felt that Mr and Mrs Gordon and family were leaving Papawai but she expressed the hope that they would be happy and prosperous in their new sphere at Levin. Mrs Gordon was presented with an electric iron, jug and toaster, and suitable gifts were also made to the children. Mr and Mrs Gordon both returned thanks for the kind words expressed and also for the gifts.
