FAILURE TO REGISTER
UNDER SOCIAL SECURITY ACT NEARLY SEVEN THOUSAND WOMEN & YOUTHS. COMPILATION OF LIST OF DEFAULTERS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. Approximately 1600 youths and 5000 females in the Dominion had. up till the end of May. failed to register under the Social Security Act. The registration branch of the Land and Income Tax Department is now compiling a defaulters’ list, and it is the intention of lite Commissioner of Taxes to take action under section 116 of the Social Suavity Act. which provides 4 that per.-: s who fail to register during the iii- ><:h following the registration data have committed an offence and are l.abte on conviction to a fine of £:i. The i.ew r< gisl rat inns Io May 31 are as follows Women; 16 years of age nr over .... 556.486 Youths: 16 and under 20 15,060 17 and under 20 14.197 18 and tinder 20 14,519 19 and under 20 11,397 Total youth;: 55,17.3 Total new registrations 611.659 As there will still be time for defaulters to register before the commissioner can take action, it is probable that many of those who have not registered will do so and avoid appearing on lhe defaulters' list. The registrations under the Act which have been received by the Land and Income Tax Department have been arranged in alphabetical order, and the department is thus in a position to say who has registered and who has not. The men over 20 who were registeredunder the Unemployment Act, 1930, and the Employment Promotion Act, 1936, were automatically registered under the Social Security Acti
