ROAD CYCLING

WAIRARAPA CLUB TWENTY-EIGHT MILES RACE. WON BY G. GOODIN. The Wairarapa Amateur Cycling Club held a 28-mile race on Saturday over a course commencing from Second Street, Lansdowne, to Mount Bruce and return. A northerly wind hampered the riders somewhat on the. outward journey, but fast times were recorded on the home run, the back markers averaging in the vicinity of 30 miles pen hour. There were seven starters, K. Gilbert (lOmin) being the first away, followed by Lefort (7min), B. Dooling (4.3omin), M. Graham (3min), G. Goodin (2min) and R. Copp and K. Woollett (scr). At the turn the riders were in the same order except that Graham had' caught Dooling. These two riders caught Lefort and Gilbert who were in turn caught by Goodin. Half way home Copp and Woollett passed Gilbert and later Lefort, but failed to catch the three lead ers. On the long down hill run from the top of the hill in Opaki Road to the finishing line, Second Street, G. Goodin headed his bunch home, winning from Graham and Dooling. A minute or so later came the scratch riders, Copp and Woollett. In the ensuing sprint Woollett narrowly defeated Copp. Later came Lefort and then Gilbert. The riders were later entertained to a very much appreciated afternoon tea by Mr and Mrs E. J. Graham, Second Street.

The following are detailed results:— G. Goodin (2min) 1; M. Graham (3min) 2; B. Dooling (4min 30sec) 3. Fastest lime honours: K. Woollett (scr) lhr lOmin 7sec 1; R. Copp (scr) lhr lOmin 7 l-ssec 2; G. Goodin (2min) lhr lOmin 47sec 3. .

During the year the members of the club compete for points prizes, the following being the position at present for the various trophies:—Greenwood Cup (place points handicap' section): M. Graham 9, R. Copp 6, G. Goodin 5 L. Green 4, B. Dooling 3, E. Lefort 3. A. Morris 3, K. Woollett 3. > Fastest lime trophy: R. Copp 15, K. Woollett 9, G. Goodin 5, M. Graham 3, J. Bradev 2, L. Green 1, A. Morris 1. Junior trophy: M. Graham 3, B. Dooling 2, K. Gilbert 1.
