BRIDGE OVER WAIHOU RIVER STEEL STRUCTURE IN PLACE OF WOODEN ONE. CHANGE-OVER MADE IN 15 HOURS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) TE AROHA, June 11. Working continuously for fifteen hours, in stormy weather yesterday, two railway gangs, under the supervision of Mr Simmonds, commenced and completed one of the most ambitious railway contracts yet undertaken ,by the Maintenance Division, namely the demolition of the 360 feet wooden railway bridge, forty years old, over the Waihou River at Te Aroha, and the substitution of a modern steel girder structure. Two mobile cranes, capable of lifting over ten tons each, were used. Six 33 feet and six 23 feet girders, and a similar number of sections of sleepers with rails, were used in the construction of the new work.
