KING’S BIRTHDAY
CELEBRATIONS IN SAMOA. By Telegraph—Press .association—Copyright. APIA, June 10. On Friday morning at 9 o’clock a large number of residents, including all nationals and Samoans, assembled at the Administration buildings to celebrate the King’s birthday. The Acting-Administrator, Mr A. C. Turnbull, and Mr O. F. Nelson, senior elected member of the Samoan Legislative Council, spoke on behalf of the Fautua, as also did members of the council and Fono Faipule. A guard of honour of returned soldiers and Samoan police was inspected by the Ac-ting-Administrator. The Samoan territorial force made its first public appearance on parade with a platoon of 40 men in the company of Lieutenant A. S. Batty. A Royal salute of 21 guns was fired. A ball at Government House, Vailima, was held in the evening. OBSERVANCE IN SYDNEY. (Received This Day, 10.50 a.m.) SYDNEY. This Day. The King’s Birthday is being observed today as a public holiday, and the Stock Exchange is closed.
