When stewing pears, leave the stalks on, and a better flavour is obtained. Obstinate drains can often be cleared by inserting the hose into them and using the water at full pressure. Brown stains on teacups will quickly disappear if a little powdered whiting is rubbed on a damp rag and then on the cups. Never leave-bread or vegetables in stock, or the liquid will become sour. Pin in place and finish in the usual way. Blankets that are wearing at the edges cap be bound with satin ribbon. From double-bed size worn thin in the centre cut the worn part away, join the two original long sides together, bind the blanket all round with ribbon and use for a single bed. To clean galvanised buckets and tubs, make a paste of plain flour mixed with cold water. Add boiling water and while hot coat inside of the article thinly. Dry in the sun. The paste .will easily peel off, leaving the buck6t\ or tub like new.
