NAZI TERRORISM
HUGE FORCE OF POLICE IN KLADNO SEEKING MURDERER OF CONSTABLE ARMED FORCES SEARCHING HOUSES. CZECHS ATTRIBUTE CRIME TO GERMAN. . By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 12.40 p.m.) PRAGUE, June 9. A fine of £3700 has been imposed on the town of Kladno (in which a German policeman was murdered). Workers are exempt from payment of the fine, but supporters of Dr. Benes and Jews must bear the brunt. It is announced that if the murderer is not caught by Saturday evening further reprisals will be taken. A London message reports that the Kladno correspondent of “The Times” says that though it is a town of only twenty thousand inhabitants, Kladno is patrolled by over 8000 German police armed with machine-guns, searchlights and tear-gas. Patrols are making house-to-house searches, with fixed bayonets. The market square is filled with armoured cars, field kitchens and uniformed officers, resembling war conditions.
The Czechs point out that Kneist (the constable who was killed) was last seen intoxicated, quarrelling with a fellow-German in a cabaret over a girl. Shots were heard, and a Czech found Kneist dead. ACTION IN BRATISLAVA ARMY CORPS BROUGHT IN. PEASANTS ORDERED TO LEAVE FARMS. (Received This Day, 1.45 p.m.) LONDON, June 9. The “Daily Herald” says the Germans have established an army corps in Bratislava. Petrol has been requisitioned and peasants have been ordered to leave their farms.
