MANAWATU WINTER SHOW
Wide interest is being taken in the winter show of the Manawatu A. and P. Association, which is to run from June 10 to June 17, giving seven days and six nights of the highest value in entertainment and education that is to be had in the province. This winter exhibition of the association is noted for its wide scope and instructive displays of both agricultureal and industrial tyoes. Winter is the season for football" and three outstanding attractions have been arranged for followers of the code in the annual match between the Te Aute Maori College and the Palmerston North Boys’ High School, the representative clash between the Wairoa and Manawatu Young Farmers’ Clubs and the representative game between Manawatu and Wanganui. The first event has been responsible for some of the best exhibitions seen' in Palmerston North and the second is a new venture which, according to reports, bids to be well up to representative standard. Wanganui liave drawn with Taranaki and Manawatu have beaten Wellington, so the engagement between the 'two will be looked forward to with more than ordinary interest. The rest of the entertainment will be 'in keeping with the tradition already established by the association, which has engaged a vaudeville show and a Punch and Judy troupe to give free sessions during the currency of the exhibition. Hockey will also be on the programme with a match between teams from Wellington and Manawatu. Free Donkey rides are scheduled for the days on which school children are the guests of the association. Steer riding and sheep dog trials will be held on the oval and in the halls will be a cage bird show and a poultry show. Highlights in the 87,000 square feet of space in the exhibition will be the gigantic display by the Department of Agriculture for the farming community and the leading exhibition of bacon in the Dominion. The halls are to be crammed with an amazing variety of agricultural and industrial trade exhibits and it is doubtful whether there has ever been such a wealth of interest brought together in a centre as will be seen at Palmerston North from June 10 to 17.
