WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
KAITUNA-FERNRIDGE MEETING. At the monthly meeting of the Kai-tuna-Fernridge Women’s Institute held in the Kaituna Hall the president (Mrs J. Welch) presided over a fair attendance of members. After the business had been disposed of Mrs W. James gave a talk on the Returned Soldiers’ Paddy’s Market, which is to be held next month. Mrs Ramsay gave a demonstration of clay modelling which was very interesting. Mrs Kerry delighted the members with her singing as did Miss J. Douglas with her recitations. The competition for the month resulted as follow: Seniors —Mrs Keir 1, Mrs Taylforth 2. Juniors —Miss L. Pain 1. A dainty afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames A. Welch and Keir. MEETING AT OPAKI. Thfe monthly meeting of the Opaki Women’s Institute was held on Thursday last at the home of Mrs F. Miller, Mount Bruce Road. Mrs Wingate presided over a good attendance. The speaker for the afternoon was Mrs R. Miller, of Kopuaranga, whose subject was “The Cities of Europe,” illustrated with pictures and enlivened by' stories of personal experiences told in a very amusing way. The competitions resulted as follow: Child’s dress: Mrs Wyeth, 1; Mrs Buick,
2; Mrs Weston and Miss lorns (equal), 3. Jar of berries and foliage: Mrs Weston, 1; Mrs Beetham and Miss lorns (equal), 2; Mrs Cooper, 3. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs Wingate.
