Lawson, a graduate of the Otago Dental School, has obtained the degree of doctor of dental surgery at Northwestern University, Chicago. Mr Lawson previously won the scholarship annually awarded by Northwestern University to a selected post-graduate student in New Zealand. Mr. W. P. Rollings and Mr. Justice Smith were elected to the Victoria University College Council, representing the Court of Convocation (graduates) as a result of the poll held on Tuesday. They will hold office for two years. The election resulted as follows:—Mr. W. P. Rollings, 702; Mr. Justice Smith, 470: Dr. Agnes Bennett, 419; Mr. P. Levi. 223. The American Ambassador. Mr. J. P. Kennedy, and the Minister for Coordination of Defence, Lord Chatfield, were among the recipients of honorary degrees at Cambridge University on Tuesday at a congregation at which the Chancellor of the University, Earl Baldwin, presided, a British official wireless message states. Mr. W. N. Searle, youngest son of Mr N. E. Searle, Oamaru, has been elected to the honorary staff of Westminster Hospital, London, as obstetric surgeon. Westminster Hospital was recently rebuilt at a cost of £1.000,000, and was opened bv their Majesties, the King and Queen, last April. It is the teaching hospital of the Westminster Medical School. Mr. Searle is also on the honorary staff of the Chelsea Women’s Hospital. The King has approved the appointment of Mr. Herwald Ramsbotham as First Commissioner of Works, in succession to the late Sir P. Sassoon, and that of Sir Walter James Womersley. Assistant Postmaster-General, as Minister of Pensions, replacing Mr. Ramsbotham, a cablegram states. Sir W. J. Womersley wil also assist the Minister of Agriculture in the House of Commons. Mr. William Mabane is to be Assistant Postmaster -General. At a social evening held in the Savage Club Rooms last night by the Red Star Football Club, presentations were made to several members. The recipients were Mr A. Corskie. president of the Club, and Mrs. Corskie. who are leaving on a visit to England: Mr. R. Milne (treasurer) and Mrs. Milne. Mr. and Mrs. F. Henson and Mr. R. Johnson. The presentations were made by Mr. L. Pearson, a vice-president of the club, and a member of the Wairarapa Rugby Union. A. most enjoyable evening was spent by all.
