LONDON QUOTATIONS MARKETS IMPROVE. BUTTER AND CHEESE VALUES INCREASE. There was a furtner improvement last week in the London butter and cheese markets. Choicest salted New Zealand butter was quoted on Friday at 114 s a cwt, a rise of 9s. in a fortnight. The market was quieter at the end of the week. According to the report supplied by the Primary Products Marketing Department to the Dairy Board, Fri-, day’s closing prices, with those of the previous week in parentheses, were as follows: — New Zealand: Salted, 114 s (108 s to 110 s; a year ago, 122 s to 1235); unsalted, 115 s to 116 s (110 s to Ills; a year ago, 124 s to 1255). Australian: Salted, 112 s .(107s to 108 s); unsalted, 113 s to 114 s (108 s to 110 s). Danish: 98s f.0.b., 122 s spot (98s; 119 s to 120 s). Market firm. Dutch Unsalted, 108 s to 110 s (102 s to 104 s); salted, 110 s (104 s Market quiet. Lithuanian: Unsalted, 110 s to 112 s (103 s to 106 s). Polish: Salted and unsalted, 105 s to 109 s (101 s to 1025).' Market firm. Irish: Salted, 113 s. Retail prices were unchanged, New Zealand at Is Id and Danish Is 3d a lb. The present price of 114 s for butter, i is equal to approximately 13.58 d a lb; f.0.b., New Zealand ports, compared with the guaranteed price of 14.89 d a lb, f.o.b. The London equivalent of the guaranteed price is 124 s 3d a- cwt. The equivalent price of cheese is about 5.85 d a lb f.0.b., compared with the guaranteed price of 8.42 d. Deliveries of New Zealand butter from store last week were 2239 tons. The quantity in store, including 190 tons ex Opawa (whose butter and cheese for Hull ‘were discharged in London), was 5910 tons, compared with 3659 tons a year ago. Deliveries of Australian butter were 1631 tons, the quantity in store being 2135 tons, as against 5569 tons a year ago. Prices of cheese last week rose 2s to 3s a cwt. Friday’s closing quotations, with those of the previous week in parentheses, were as follow: — New Zealand: White, 52s 6d to 53s (50s to 51s; a year- ago, 69s 6d to 70s); coloured, 53s to 53s 6d, ex 54s (50s to 51s; a year ago, 69s 6d to 70s). Canadian: White and coloured, 71s to 72s (71s to 735); c.i.f. 51s to 52s (51s); old seasqn’s, coloured, 82s Market quiet. English: Finest farmers, 90s fb 100 s (90s to 100 s). Market steady. South African: White and coloured, 51s 6d to 525. Market quiet. The retail price of New Zealand cheese was unchanged at 6d a lb. Deliveries .of New Zealand cheese last week were 19,747 crates, the quantity in store being 82,281 crates, compared with 54,203 crates a year ago. Deliveries of Canadian cheese last week were 6802 boxes, the quantity in store being 75,48 b boxes, as against 64,521 boxes a year ago. Gradings of cheese for the week ended May 27 were. 5552 crates of white and 2596 crates of coloured, a total of 8148 crates.
