OPTIMISTS CLUB
WEEKLY MEETING. INTERESTING TALK. To have been one of the fortunate people standing within 10 or 12 yards from the doorway of No. 10 Downing Street when the Rt Hon Neville Chamberlain returned from his epoch mak; ing flight to Munich during the crisis in September was only one df the incidents narrated at the Optimists Club’s weekly meeting last night by Mr I. I. McGregor when he continued his travel talk on his recent tour abroad. The description given of Covent Garden, Billingsgate and Smithfield markets were .listened to with close attention by a fairly good attendance of member’s. Mr McGregor went on to describe his tour on tire Continent as well. Considering the short time at his disposal he certainly described his tour in a manner that was a treat to listen to. Mr McGregor passed around photographs of his trip and these were a source of considerable interest. Optimist M. Finlayson thanked Mr McGregor, on behalf of the club, for his address and he was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The speaker agreed to pay a return visit and give further incidents' of his tour. Visitors for the evening were Messrs Stevens and Gilbert. Mr A. Daysh was welcomed as a new member. The Rev T. V. Pearson, the club’s padre, led the members in an enjoyable few minutes’ community sing. The speaker for next week’s meeting will be Mr A. G. Wallis, who will describe naval • battles in the Great War.
