The success enjoyed b; ,ne Hawke’s Bay stable of H. S. Greene was the outstanding feature of racing over the week-end. Charade and John Charles caried off the chief jumping-events at Ellerslie, and Lord Hereford was first home in the Grandstand Steeplechase at Wanganui. Royal Appellant, who went to the barrier eleventh favourite, won the Cornwall Handicap at Ellerslie. At Dunedin, Gold Wren won the Otago Steeples, while Second Innings was first past the post in the Birthk day Handicap. The Napier Steeplechase went to Count Willonyx. The weather at most centres was good and the tracks generally were in good order. There were large attendances in every instance.

The Great Northern meeting of the Auckland Racing Club opened today in fine weather, with sunshine all day. The track was in good order but was . cutting out slightly. The attendance was 21,500 against 30,000 on the first day of the holiday last year. The totalisator handled £59,606 10s, compared with £79,474 last year, a decrease of £19,867 10s. A. Jenkins rode the winner in three of the four jumping events, and R. E. Horne rode the winner of the two principal flat races at long prices. Favoured with fine though overcast weather, the winter meeting of the Wanganui Jockey Club opened successfully on Saturday in the presence of a large crowd. The going was in excellent order. The totalisator handled £20.542, which is an increase of £4.698 on the opening day last year, which was a Thursday. Results:—
