GIFT AFTERNOON
MISS FAT HOLDAWAY AS GUEST. A large number of ladies from Ballance and neighbouring districts gathered in the Ballance Hall on Friday at a gift afternoon given in honour of Miss P-at Holdaway, a popular resident of the district, whose marriage to Mr. Cecil Taylor, of Masterton, will take place shortly. The afternoon, which began with the singing of the National Anthem and community singing, passed very pleasantly with items and competitions, these latter being won by Miss Holdaway. Miss E. Wilkin and Mrs. W. King. The following items were rendered: Mrs. R. G. McKenzie, vocal solo; Peggy and Betty Tait, duet; Audrey Wheeler, dancing items. After the serving of a delicious afternoon tea, provided by the ladies of the district, Mrs. J. A. Gibson called on Miss Holdaway to accept the numerous useful gifts brought along by her friends, and wished her all success in her married life. Miss Holdaway replied briefly, thanking all kind friends for their gifts and good wishes, and was presented with a posy by Betty Tait.
