COURSING
WAIRARAPA CLUB’S MEETING THE CLIPPER BEATEN. SURPRISE IN BIG EVENT. The defeat of last year’s Waterloo Cup winner, The Clipper, was the surprise of the Wairarapa Coursing Club’s meeting at Akura on Saturday afternoon. Coursing of a good standard was seen by a fairly large attendance of spectators. The hares were in splendid fettle, only two failing to reach cover out of 18 courses. In the final course for the Archer Cup, which was won by D. Wilson’s Big Ben against James and Taylor’s The Clipper, Big Ben led by three lengths and turned. The Clipper then turned the hare, and Big Ben again turned it. The hare then reached the escapes. An interesting bye was run with Mr Kilgour’s Sasanoff, an Auckland dog on its way to the Dannevirke meeting, which is being held today. Sasanoff showed that it was a brilliant dog. It will .be seen in Masterton again later in the season.
