WAIRARAPA COMPETITIONS. SATURDAY’S RESULTS. A further series of games ,in the Wairarapa Hockey Association s cham - pionship fixtures was played on Saturday. Conditions were ideal and some bright hockey was witnessed. Playing at Carterton. the home team maintained their unbeaten record by defeating Wesley by 7/0 in the senior men’s championship. Carterton were always on top, playing pretty hockey. A feature of the game was the great display of the Wesley goalie, Emerson. His play was really great, and must be given serious consideration when the representative team is being selected. At Hastwells, the home team proved too good for Dalefield and won by 5/3 after a fast and spectacular display. The Hastwell team is playing very attractive hockey at present. They have adopted the Indian game and their stick work was a treat to watch, especially among the forwards, of whom the Dick brothers and Ruakere were outstanding. The junior men’s games played on Saturday were not very interesting, most of the leading teams having easy wins. Wesley A and Carterton A was the main, game and proved a great tussle between two good teams. Wesley, however, were the more experienced side and: gained the honours by 6/0. Carterton B and Greytown B had a good game at Carterton, Greytown winning by 5/0, while at Greytown, Dalefield and Grey town A played a drawn game, 2/2. College A and B teams met at College and College Old Boys ran up a big score against Wesley B. The results are as follows:—
Senior Men. Carterton beat Wesley, 7/0. Hastwell beat Dalefield, 5/3. Kiwi a bye. Junior Men. College A beat College B, 9/0. Wesley A beat Carterton A, 6/0. College Old Boys beat Wesley B. 13/0. Greytown B beat Carterton E, 5/0. Dalefield drew with Greytown A, 2/2.
WOMEN’S GAMES. KIWI CREATE SURPRISE. A feature of the Wairarapa Women’s Association’s fixtures was the improved showing of Kiwi against the unbeaten Excelsior eleven. Excelsior goaled in the first five minutes of play, but this proved the only goal of the match. Excelsior did most of the attacking, due to the weakness of Kiwi forwards, who missed several good chances by not following in their shots. The Kiwi backs, however, were brilliant and try as they, would, Excelsior were unable to penelrate the defence. Too much praise cannot be given to the Kiwi backs for their fine display, especially Mrs. Brooks, Misses A. Attree and D. Leforte, <while Mrs. Foster gave a splendid display in the net. Another surprise was the splendid showing of College who turned on some good hockey to defeat Carterton by 6/1. Results:— Senior Women. Excelsior beat Kiwi, 1/0. College beat Carterton, 6/1. Kia Ora A beat Kia Ora B, 4/2. Junior Women. College A beat Featherston, 4/0. Excelsior beat College Old Girls, 4/0. College B beat College D, 4/0. Carterton beat College C, '4/0. POSITION OF TEAMS.
