MODERATE REACTION

ON LONDON STOCK MARKET NEW ZEALAND’S POSITION. SHORT-TERM BORROWING ADVISED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, June 2. M. Molotov's equivocal speech halted the market’s advance, but the reaction is very moderate, indicating strengthened confidence in both the political and the economic outlook. Sales of gilt-edged securities were quickly absorbed. New Zealand stocks, thanks to Mr Nash’s arrival, resisted the mid-week irregularity, but many City business men consider that Mr Nash would be wise to borrow short while New Zealand’s credit remains bad. Industrial shares continued to rise on further evidences of expanding production.
