OBITUARY
MR HOWARD KENWAY. POVERTY BAY PIONEER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GISBORNE, This Day. Mr Howard Kenway. who has died suddenly at the age of 76, was one of the best known settlers and public body men in Poverty Bay. A member of a well-known English family which has an established sheep farming connection in New Zealand, Mr Kenway was a pioneer of the Waimata district and acted as manager of the Kiore Sheep Farming Company. He had served as chairman of the Cook County Council and Cook Hospital Board and was an active member of other public and semi-public bodies. In the commercial field, he was a director of the Gisborne Sheep Farmers' Company and his social activities found an outlet in his presidency of the Y.M.C.A.. He was an active member and past rangitira of the Savage Club. He was an ardent worker during the war and for many years he was chairman-of the Citizens’ Defence Committee. He leaves a widow. but no children.
