TRAGIC DEATH

WHILE MAKING SPEECH. TRAGEDY AT NELSON GATHERING. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NELSON, June 2. Mr A. T. Leeds, who had been appointed acting city engineer in succession to Mr J. G. Littlejohn (resigned), died with tragic suddenness late this afternoon, when concluding a speech at a gathering of council staffs to farewell Mr Littlejohn. It appeared to those present that Mr Leeds was seeking a final word to conclude his remarks, when suddenly he collapsed. Mr Leeds came to Nelson from Auckland. He held a commission in the New Zealand Engineering Corps at the war. A widow and two young children are left.
