EXPLOSION IN SCHOOL
MANY CHILDREN INJURED IN OHIO TRAPPED IN COLLAPSING BUILDING. GAS SEEPS INTO WALLS AND ROOF. By Telegraph—Frcss Association—Copyright BARBERTON (Ohio). June 1. A gas explosion in a school injured at least 49 children, six of them critically. The injured children were trapped when the walls and roof of the building collapsed.
The cause of the explosion was probably the same as that of an extraordinary tragedy in a high school in Texas in March, 1937. In that disaster more than 500 children and teachers were killed out of a total of 739 persons inside the building. The explosion was caused by gas seeping from the school’s furnace into the hollow walls and roof the building.
